Automaton (1996-2002)
79 images from the James van Leuven archive.
Automaton placed itself on the Olympia/Seattle record trail across three releases: the Adventure Series seven-inch in 1997, Futura Transmitta in 1999, and Clarions and Banners in 2002. The band was a trio — Pat Kearney on guitar and vocals, writing the lyrics; Chris Duryee on bass; James van Leuven on drums; with rotating supporting musicians like Bill Jones on trumpet, George Meaders on trumpet, Ben Keresten on synthesizer (Red X Studio, Spaceneedles), and Nathan Carson (Witch Mountain) on synthesizer. These images document the project’s live and studio footprint around that run.
Members: Pat Kearney — guitar, vocals, lyrics; James van Leuven — drums; Chris Duryee — bass.
